About this Book
I have put this book together in response to requests and feedback I have received while doing workshops around the country. I constantly get told that triangles are tricky and that projects using triangles often end in disaster. I believe that with a couple of simple techniques most of the problems with triangles can be avoided and working with triangles is a lot of fun with unlimited potential.
This book is designed as a reference book as much as a collection of patterns. I hope that it is used to help with the maths any time triangle projects are started. With measurement grids and simple diagrams, the calculations should be easy and available at the finger tip. Most of the patterns included in this book are not published anywhere else and are designed to be easy enough for beginners but still interesting enough for the more experienced. As I constantly say, a quilt does not need to be complicated to be effective and simple techniques and designs can make stunning quilts with a little imagination and flair.
All of the techniques, calculations and projects in this book are designed to be rotary cut and machine pieced. We are all busy little quilters, so the use of the quickest, most effective and efficient tools makes patchworking and quilting achievable. Unless you are seeking immortality through quilting, the aim is to finish your quilts and move onto the next one rather than spend a decade making one drop dead gorgeous quilt. A good quilt is a finished quilt, not necessarily a perfect quilt. I am a firm believer in matching your techniques and complexity to the end use the project is going to be used. Most quilts are given away. We make them to tell someone we care or for a particular purpose. Most quilts need to be functional and utilitarian. If you hope the quilt is to become a family heirloom or an international award winner then it is worth spending the time to make it close to perfect. If it is for a new born or a toddler, then you reasonably have to expect that it will get harsh treatment and you probably don’t want to dedicate a year to the project.
All of the patterns take you to the point of completing your top. There is a segment at the back of the book covering very general techniques on finishing your quilt. This is not a definitive discussion on finishing, but rather a general coverage of how I finish my quilts. As those of you who know me can attest, finishing is not my area of expertise. There are, however, many fabulous books available which deal with this topic more comprehensively.
I hope that you enjoy this book and that you unlock the wonderful design potential of triangles and use them in many, many fabulous quilts.
